The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Polygraph Examiner. This role is vital to our pre-employment process, involving the administration and interpretation of polygraph examinations to assess the credibility of our applicants. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting comprehensive written reports to LCSO Human Resources and Investigations polygraph personnel, ensuring thorough documentation and analysis.

As a Polygraph Examiner, you will play a n essential role in co nducting polygraph examinations and interviews, interpreting test results to form opinions on truthfulness or deception, and preparing detailed reports on examination results. You will also prepare examinees for testing, review background investigation materials, engage in pre-polygraph activities, and collaborate with relevant personnel. Additionally, you will submit materials for quality control and maintain polygraph equipment.

To excel in this role, you should be flexible and have up to date skills with a minimum of two years experience performing polygraph examinations. In addition, a comprehensive understanding of general office practices and law enforcement computer systems, strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain investigative files is key. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with the ability to work independently, establish effective working relationships, and maintain confidentiality are crucial for success as a Polygraph Examiner.

The pay for this position is $48.0770 per hour.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Conducts polygraph examinations and interviews subjects.
• Interprets test results and forms an opinion regarding the subject's truthfulness or deception.
• Prepares and submits written reports regarding the polygraph exam results to Investigations personnel and LCSO Human Resources.
• Prepares polygraph examinees for polygraph testing; prepares polygraph questions.
• Reviews background investigation and pre-employment questionnaires, statements, tests, examinations, and other information to determine the credibility of a potential hire.
• Engages in pre-polygraph activities; obtains information from Background Investigations Unit, Investigations, LCSO Human Resources personnel, and other relevant sources.
• Submits test questions, charts, and reports for quality control evaluation by other polygraph examiners.
• Collaborates with LCSO Human Resources, Background Investigations Unit, and Investigations personnel.
• Ensures proper maintenance of polygraph equipment.

Nonessential Functions

• When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
• Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience performing polygraph examinations. Conducted and completed at least one hundred polygraph examinations and polygraph reports.
• Ability to obtain national polygrapher certification.
• Completion of a minimum of thirty continuing education hours in coursework related to polygraphy within the past two (2) years. Certificate and/or proof of completion is required.
• Must complete a minimum of thirty continuing education hours every two (2) years in coursework related to the field of polygraphy.
• Must maintain a national polygraph examiner license in good standing with the American Polygraph Association (APA) or American Association of Police Polygraphers (AAPP).
• Must be able to work on-call, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
