Position DescriptionManages a unit within the Lubbock MPIP Business Office. Plans, organizes, and develops goals and procedures for employees. Meet goals outlined by leadership by utilizing specialized skills to lead a team to successful outcomes according to project specifications and expectations; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and the community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions- Manage daily operations of coding and billing teams, including prioritization of work based on key performance metrics and volumes.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators for the coding and billing teams.
- Works effectively with other business office areas, clinics, and outside agencies to coordinate and promote efficient processes.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations for coding, reimbursement, and documentation requirements.
- Develop and implement systems to ensure the identification of all services and supplies.
- Develop and document coding and billing policies, training, and job aids.
- Identify and plan projects around solutions to increase charges and/or efficiency and reduce rejections and write-offs.
- Represent the business office as needed and appropriate in multi-department meetings and key projects.
- Work with clinic managers to support timely charge capture.
- Develop and manage coding training and education.
- Assist the Sr. Managing Director with reports and updates concerning metrics, such as documentation lag, coding lag, and work queue management.
- Serves as a mentor, develops staff, and ensures they have the necessary tools, training, materials, etc.
- Remain knowledgeable on all payor coding and billing requirements.
- Facilitate internal and external coding reviews.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related area plus five years of progressively responsible management experience OR a combination of education and/or years of experience in management to equal a minimum of 9 years.
