This recruitment is being held to establish an open to the public eligible list to fill current and future Integrated Pest Management Technician II positions.
This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower level classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE OPPORTUNITY
OC Operations & Maintenance has a vacancy for an Integrated Pest Management Technician II. This position inspects assigned areas for rodent presence; selects & applies rodenticides, insecticides, and herbicides; while monitoring progress. This position also performs duties such as:

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES:
The successful candidate will possess two (2) or more years of experience as an Integrated Pest Management Technician I in the County of Orange or equivalent. In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the knowledge and experience in the following core competencies:

Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C, before the date of appointment, is required.
Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate or License (QAC or QAL) issued by the State of California is required. Please attach a copy of the certificate or license when applying.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, and WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical and Mental Requirements: Heavy physical demand. Operates power equipment. Ability to move often, quickly, and easily, including the ability to reach, crawl, stoop, and bend as well as stand, walk, sit, and drive for up to 8 or 10-hour periods. Ability to perform physical/manual labor. Ability to walk up and down uneven terrain or irregular surfaces, or hills. Upper body strength to lift/push/pull/carry 50 to 80 pounds. Ability to climb up and down large vehicles.

Vision sufficient to read standard text. Ability to read and understand recommendations from the Pest Control Adviser (PCA). Ability to hear and speak well enough to converse by telephone and two-way radio. Manual dexterity to write legibly and input data on a keyboard and calculator.

Environmental and Working Conditions: Stamina to work outdoors in varied climates and exposure to weather such as sun, wind, and rain; exposure to pollens, dust, fumes, birds, toxic chemicals, and other contagious environments, oils, pesticides, and animals and wildlife. Incumbents may be subject to moving objects or vehicles, fumes and gases, and intense noise levels.

May be required to work under various weather conditions, including rainstorms and windy conditions, and walk in uneven, slippery, and sometimes dangerous terrains. Requires the use and wear of safety equipment, including safety glasses and rubber footwear with shanks, protective clothing and gloves, sun and hearing protection, kneepads and safety vests, snake chaps and waders, and hard hats. Depending on the assignment, incumbents may be required to interact and communicate with members of the public and business partners.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Applicants will be interviewed and rated by a panel of job knowledge experts. Each applicant's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the applicant's qualifications for the job.

Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
