Description

The City of El Segundo is currently seeking Recreation Leaders for the Youth Basketball League in the Recreation, Parks, Library department. This is a part-time, non-benefited, at-will position exempt from the classified service. This position will be scheduled to work approximately 10 to 18 hours per week. Afternoon, evening, Friday, and Saturday hours are required. See sample schedule below:

Friday-Sunday: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Checkout Building/Sports* Sunday-Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Clubhouse front desk Monday - Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00/2:00 p.m. or 1:00/2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Teen Center Monday - Thursday: 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Friday & Saturday: 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Daycamp at Clubhouse Monday: 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday - Friday: 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Under moderate supervision, the Recreation Leader organizes, conducts, and supervises a variety of recreational programs and activities; performs related duties as required. This classification is further distinguished from Senior Recreation Leader in that it does not supervise staff groups but may provide direction to Recreation Assistants and volunteers.

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Experience: One (1) year of experience in customer service, community service, childcare, babysitting, working with seniors, coaching or playing a sport, and/or volunteer work in a related field.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Within six months of hire, obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification through the American Red Cross.

Working Conditions:
Regularly exposed to weather conditions. Regularly required to lift and/or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Disaster Service Worker :
In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of El Segundo employees in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.

Non-represented part-time, hourly positions do not qualify for City benefits, except as required by law. Employees are enrolled in Social Security upon hire.

Hourly employees may not exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30) unless previously authorized. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
