The Volunteer Emergency Services Program Specialist serves as the lead administrative and program support for the Volunteer Emergency Services unit within the Internal Operations Bureau. This role oversees the Season of Sharing intake process, provides volunteer work direction, performs community liaison functions, engages with nonprofit organizations as needed, and performs other related duties to support the department’s mission.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications

License: Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License

Education: Possession of a Associate of Arts degree from an accredited junior college with a degree or certificate in business, social or behavioral sciences, volunteer administration or a closely related field.

Experience: The equivalent of one (1) year of experience as a eligibility worker in the Contra Costa County classified service.

OR

The equivalent of eighteen months of fulltime experience working in volunteer services programs or determining public assistance eligibility.

Substitution for Education: An additional six (6) months of experience may be substituted for one (1) year of the required education.

Selection Process

1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

2. Training and Experience Questionnaire: Candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire at the time of filing. The responses to the training and experience questions on the supplemental questionnaire will be used to evaluate candidates' r elevant education, training and/or experience as it relates to the Volunteer Emergency Services Program Specialist c lassification. (Weighted 100%)

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
