Multiple full-time positions available with the Water Department, Pipeline Division, located at 2409 E 18th St.
Salary Range: $23.98-$36.60/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Install, replace, repair, and maintain water distribution mains and lines, valves and hydrants.
• Repairs leaks and breaks in existing pressured mains.
• Participates in the restoration of work site locations and street surfaces.
• Responsible for backfill excavations, restores dirt work, seed or sods, sets up erosion control measures and tears down and replaces fences.
• Replaces landscaping, utilizing proper techniques in minimizing damages to existing utilities.
• Assists in digging trenches and other excavations.
• Shores deep excavation.
• Follows all City policies concerning safety in the work place.
• Operates various types of motorized construction and maintenance equipment.
• Operates jackhammer in cutting and breaking concrete, asphalt or rock.
• Removes waste from work site.
• Drives dump truck for hauling construction material.
• Operates a front-end loader up to 2-1/2 cubic yards in loading pipe or other materials for construction and maintenance work.

Qualifications

REQUIRES 4 years of utility maintenance and repair experience. Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must possess a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period (Appropriate CDL will be determined by the department). Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Must possess at least one of the certifications listed that is applicable to the employee's work area within 6 months of moving into this job classification: Distribution System Level I (DS-I) License with the State of Missouri; Wastewater Collections System level C certification with the State of Missouri; Backflow certification with the State of Missouri. Preference given to applicants with experience in making repairs to a water distribution system.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
