- Observes and assists professionals in the assigned department to learn about areas of career interest.
- Conducts research, collects and organizes data, performs analyses, and prepares reports to supplement knowledge gained through academic courses.
- Proposes solutions to existing problems and discusses recommendations with administrative personnel to acquire skills in problem solving.
- Is responsible for special projects as assigned.
- Leads, as necessary, in the coordination, administration, or monitoring of specific programs.

Minimum Qualifications:Enrolled in an accredited college or university graduate degree program, with some advanced coursework related to the internship program.

Notes to Candidate:About Department & Key ResponsibilitiesAustin Water is seeking 2 civil or environmental engineering student or student with similar training, to join our Infrastructure Management Division (IMD). IMD coordinates with groups in the organization to plan new and existing capital improvements projects that improve water, wastewater, and reclaimed infrastructure. This team also develops enterprise asset management data to validate our capital investment decisions. The position will coordinate with both capital improvement program (CIP) and asset management staff to collect asset data from capital projects and to aid in the development of the annual CIP.
Tasks may include :
- Assist with the development of Austin Water’s asset management program
- Reviewing capital projects deliverables including engineering plan sets, preliminary engineering reports, opinion of probable costs, schedule of values, warranty sheets, as-builts, CIP asset data sheets, etc. to populate asset database
- Coordinate project meetings with Austin Water facility engineers, external consulting engineers and other project stakeholders
- Updating databases with current GIS mapping data, cost estimates, asset condition data, project status, etc.
- Prepare documents for CIP planning
- Host meetings to present CIP initiatives and analysis
- Contribute to reviews of project funding requests and phase change requests
Schedule:Monday-Friday, 8am - 5 pm with a flexible schedule.
Pay Rate:$22.05 per hour (Pay Rate Effective 10-1-2025)
