JOB SUMMARY

The City of Manhattan Beach is actively seeking an experienced Facilities Superviso r to join our dynamic team in the Field Operations Division of the Public Works Department!

Our Department & Section

The Department of Public Works maintains 120 centerline miles of streets, 15,000+ traffic signs, and 175,500 square feet of City buildings. The City’s 10 parks cover 47.88 acres. The City also maintains 15 public parking lots containing 1,688 metered spaces and an additional 440 street parking meters. The City’s three water storage facilities have a combined capacity of nearly 10 million gallons. Additionally, the department maintains 110 miles of sewer mains and lines serving 12,000 connections. The City contracts for the ongoing maintenance of 46 traffic signals, solid waste and recyclables collection, and street sweeping.
The Building and Grounds Section provides skilled maintenance of City facilities and buildings, including painting, repairs, renovations, preventative maintenance, janitorial services, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems. This section strives to maintain buildings and grounds in a clean and safe condition. Buildings and Grounds maintains the 26 public EV charging stations throughout the City.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education/Training/Experience: Licenses/Certificates/Special Requirements:
Knowledge of:
Operations, services, and activities related to buildings, facilities, and electrical maintenance and repair programs and trouble-shooting methods; safety standards, work methods, and equipment operation standards; safe and efficient use of tools and equipment; principles of supervision and training; materials storage hazards and safety standards; traffic control and safety practices involving facilities and electrical maintenance work; contract development and administration methods; labor and material cost estimating techniques; safe driving principles and practices; and customer service practices.

Ability to:
Plan, organize, assign, supervise, and inspect work; motivate and evaluate the work of assigned employees; analyze complex maintenance problems and determine appropriate actions; operate a variety of electrical maintenance and repair equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner; determine resources required for different jobs; read, develop, interpret, and apply a wide variety of technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints, and schematics; interpret and apply policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to maintenance programs and functions; perform skilled trades tasks; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

Part-time employees are enrolled in PARS (Public Alternate Retirement System). All part-time and seasonal employees contribute 7.5% each pay period on a pre-tax basis. If an employee reaches 1,000 hours within a fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) or is already a CalPERS member, then they are enrolled in CalPERS (Public Employees Retirement System).

The City complies with California Labor Code 245-249 by providing paid sick leave for part-time hourly employees accordingly.

The City of Manhattan Beach does not provide medical/dental/vision benefits to part-time employees. Eligible employees enrolled in CalPERS may opt into a CalPERS medical plan.
