Description

The Position

The City of Riverside, Public Utilities Department (RPU) is accepting applications for the position of Principal Engineer to fill one (1) vacancy in the Water Division. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

A Principal Engineer, under general direction, will plan, assign, supervise and review professional engineering work as the head of a major engineering section; assist in developing and carrying out policies and programs; and do related work as required.

Qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related area.

Experience:

Five years' experience in the performance of professional water engineering work including a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

Necessary Special Requirements:

1. Possession of an appropriate, valid class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
2. Registration in California as a Professional Engineer

Highly Desired Qualifications:
1. Ability to interpret and implement RPU’s Water Rules and Rates on new development
Understanding of the following:

2. Operation of our non-potable water system

3. Our water rates in general and especially the agricultural water rates

4. The City’s General Plan and its effect on development

5. How to analyze the impact of new development on our current water system

6. How to engage with developers as required at the One Stop Shop

7. How to condition new development with water infrastructure requirements that support the proposed development and our water system

8. RPU’s properties including maintenance requirements, surplus process, and how to deal with common property use with other agencies

9. General mapping and GIS system operation

10. Must possess exceptional customer service skills
