Description

Vacancy is in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the Health and Human Services Department. Under direction, to plan, develop, implement and evaluate the nutrition and breastfeeding education program for WIC clinics and participants. Directs, supervises and reviews the activities of other Nutritionist, Senior Nutrition Aides, Nutrition Aides and clerical personnel in the Nutrition Unit. Interacts with the State Health Services WIC Program Nutrition Coordinator on program development. Interviews clients for the purpose of collecting information and data from them to assess their needs. Makes referrals to other agencies. Maintains detailed records and compiles statistics and reports. Communicates changes in WIC policies to clinics and participating physicians and interacts with them regarding clients’ medical welfare. Acts for WIC Public Health Program Manager in his/her absence. Conducts nutrition education programs in the community with community agencies and community groups. Develops an annual nutrition education plan in compliance with Federal and State regulations and guidelines. Assures proper certification of eligible applicants. Prescribes appropriate food packages for program participants.

This is a HMEA union position. The hours of work are 40 per week and the above salary includes 5% in lieu of overtime.

This is a grant-funded position renewable on an annual basis. The City of Hartford is not obligated to fund this position upon termination of funding.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The examination will consist of a rating of your training and experience as contained on your application and may include a written test, an oral test, a performance test, or a combination thereof. Qualifications

Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:

A Master's degree from an institution accredited by a recognized regional accrediting body in nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in nutrition in a health care facility or agency.

OR

A Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution accredited by a recognized regional accrediting body with a major in nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in nutrition or a health care facility or agency, one (1) of which was in a lead capacity.

A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BYT THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT .

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
