The Division of Community and Public Health is seeking a Senior Epidemiologist to serve as the Chief, Bureau of Data Modernization and Interoperability (BDMI). This is a senior level professional position that would play a central role in the integration of epidemiology, informatics and population-based surveillance data. This position will lead the modernization, integration, and interoperability of critical public health data systems to ensure timely, accurate and actionable public health data exchange.
The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.
- Lead modernization efforts for public health data systems, with a focus on Reportable Disease Management Systems, Immunization Information System (IIS), Syndromic and other surveillance systems and aligning projects with the CDC Data Modernization Initiative.
- Oversee interoperability efforts connecting portfolio systems with electronic health records (EHR), laboratory information systems, health information exchanges (HIEs) and other relevant platforms.
- Collaborate with epidemiologists, data analysts and program staff to optimize data workflows supporting case investigation, disease surveillance, data analysis and dissemination for public health planning purposes.
- Coordinate with state, local and federal partners in establishing data interoperability frameworks and policies that align with national standards (HL7, FHIR, etc.).
- Collaborate with other state agencies, health care organizations, EHR vendors, HIEs, and epidemiology teams to enhance bidirectional data sharing and public health reporting capabilities.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of research managers, analysts, and program associates performing activities across data systems, data quality/exchange and informatics in support of public health surveillance.
- Develop and manage funding proposals and grants to support data modernization/interoperability, epidemiology and informatics projects.
- Represent the agency in state, federal and national forums focused on data modernization, epidemiology and informatics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Data Sciences or related field and 4 or more years of experience, or a Doctorate degree and 2 or more years of relevant experience.
- At least four years of experience in public health data systems, informatics, epidemiology and analysis in an applied public health setting.
- Strong understanding of epidemiologic principles and public health surveillance workflows.
- Experience with statistical software (SAS / Stata/ R /) and general programming techniques is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of federal public health data modernizationinitaitives and interoperability standards for data exchange.
- Ability to lead complex cross functional teams and manage stakeholder relationships with diverse partners.
