POSITION

Under the supervision of the Racquet Supervisor, plans, organizes, supervises, and implements a full range of public tennis and pickleball programs and services. Acts as lead for program operations, participant relations, facility coordination, and staff support.

TASKS

• Assist in developing, scheduling, and supervising tennis and pickleball programming (lessons, leagues, tournaments, drop-in play, clinics) to meet community needs;
• Oversee daily operation of racquet courts: scheduling, allocations, monitoring usage, coordinating maintenance, and resolving scheduling conflicts;
• Supervise part-time Recreation Aides, program staff, and volunteer instructors; train, evaluate, and coordinate work assignments;
• Ensure safe facility operations by enforcing departmental policies, rules, and safety standards; inspect and maintain courts, nets, lighting, and equipment, coordinating with maintenance personnel as needed;
• Organize, promote, and implement tournaments, exhibitions, and special events (e.g., community racquet days), including logistics, staffing, and publicity;
• Monitor participant behavior, resolve conflicts, and complete incident/accident/behavior forms as needed;
• Maintain program records: attendance, registrations, payments, equipment inventory, and statistical reports;
• Assist in outreach and communication: distribute promotional materials, assist with social media, inform patrons of schedule changes, and interact with community groups;
• Serve as a resource to participants by answering questions, offering orientation or basic instruction in court etiquette, and referring more advanced instruction to instructors;
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and conferences; stay current with industry trends in racquet sports;
• Assist in budget management by tracking expenses (supplies, equipment, staff time) and recommending resource allocations;
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Racquet Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduate/GED AND one (1) year of experience working in sports, youth programs, or recreation setting. First Aid and CPR certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

• KNOWLEDGE OF CPR and First Aid procedures; tennis and pickleball rules, Park/facility rules, basic maintenance, code of conduct for all involved at athletic events, safety guidelines, record maintenance, recreational activities, event planning methods and techniques, and facilities security and safety best practices;
• SKILLED IN responding professionally to conflict and working collaboratively with individuals and groups; Effectively communicating verbally and in writing, following written and oral instructions, and establishing and maintaining a positive team-first work environment with productive working relationships; working independently and with a team, to demonstrate a strong work ethic and provide and follow oral and written instructions in English;
• ABILITY TO Act professionally and positively, with confidence and enthusiasm, motivate and lead other program staff, volunteers, and participants; Provide instruction and guidance to program participants and other support staff; Plan and facilitate a variety of recreational programs and activities;
• PROFICIENCY IN using work-related computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic applications and devices to perform essential job duties; Basic principles and practices of customer service, Ethics, techniques, and rules of competitive and non-competitive activities and/or recreation programs; scorekeeping, timekeeping, and officiating for assigned sports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Must have the physical strength and agility to lift, carry, and pull tables, chairs, equipment, etc., up to 50 pounds regularly; bend and twist in all directions, and squeeze with arms and hands. In addition, work may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping. Flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, depending on program schedules.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process. The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.
