THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW RECRUITING FOR THE POSITION OF
PART-TIME PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position.

Required to work at least four (4) shifts per month, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

New hires will be required to work a set schedule during training.

Under the direction of the Public Safety Communications Manager, the Public Safety Communications Dispatcher receives and processes all incoming emergency and non-emergency requests for police, fire, and medical help before dispatching the appropriate units.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

A High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required. A college-level degree in criminal justice or a related field, such as communications, is preferred. One year of public contact work experience is required. Telephone or dispatch experience is preferred.

EXAM REQUIREMENT
The City of Placentia offers complete testing services for the Public Safety Communications Dispatcher position through the National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com , select 'Find Jobs', then select EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS Jobs and sign up for the City of Placentia. All candidates must pass the NTN written exam to proceed in the hiring process.

Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Placentia. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry-level exam will be placed on a test pass list.

National Testing Network is a service that conducts entry-level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the City of Placentia's responsibility and decision-making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the City of Placentia, where the final decisions are made.

The City of Placentia will contact candidates considered most qualified based on their education, training, and experience as shown on their application, who are on the NTN pass list, and invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.

The selection process may include, but is not limited to, oral interviews and/or written exams, performance tests, and oral presentations. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment-eligible list from which hires may be made. The list is valid for up to 1 year, or until an insufficient number of candidates remain, whichever comes first.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER:
Under California law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109), all City of Placentia employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers, (DSW). In the event of a catastrophic event, City of Placentia employees may be expected to fulfill emergency action assignments. As DSW's, employees may be assigned to assist in any disaster service activity that promotes the protection of public health and safety and preservation of lives and property.

Retirement - California Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) PST Deferred Compensation Plan. Contribution to this account is 7.5% per pay period, the City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% deducted from salary. Additionally, employee pays 1.45% towards Medicare per paycheck.

Part-Time Alternative Health and Wellness (AHW) Leave -Sick leave equivalent accrues at 1 hour per 30 hours worked, max 40 hours per year, max accrual bank of 80 hours.
