The
Telecommunication Services Division of the
Innovation and Technology Department is recruiting for a
Telecommunications/Electronic Engineer II* who will plan, design, implement, evaluate, and modify a variety of County wide data infrastructure and communications systems. Telecommunications Engineers II provide technical and engineering support to system users, County departments, Telco service providers, general contractors, and County technicians involved in the design and implementation of data infrastructure and County communications network. Duties include conducting research, planning, cost analysis , and implementation of proposed telecommunications and data infrastructures ; evaluating existing or new networks, communications systems; designing, reconfiguring, implementation, and integration of telecommunications and network systems; preparing schematic plans, technical drawings, and circuit wiring diagrams; determining the size and location of power systems; designing outside plant, backbone, and horizontal cabling as well as fiber optic infrastructure for Local Area Networks (LANs), audio, video, VoIP, and security systems; and preparing detailed engineering packages for projects including floor plans, site plans, equipment rack diagrams, parts lists, and scope of work. Position may supervise, assist in, or inspect the installation of projects as required.

Minimum Requirements REQUIRED EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college or technical school coursework in telecommunications and data infrastructure, data systems design, transport systems design, or a closely related field. A list of coursework must be submitted with the application, unless an Associate's degree has been conferred in a qualifying field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years within the last five (5) years of experience planning, designing, implementing, evaluating, and/or modifying telecommunications or electronic systems such as data networks transport systems, telecommunication systems, VoIP, CCTV, audio, security, and building premise distribution systems.
Education Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education based on one (1) year for each 30 semester units (45 quarter).
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience and education in data and fiber-optic infrastructure and communication technologies, certification or training in Cisco VoIP, AutoCAD, and BICSI standards.
- Familiarity with satellite installations and supporting equipment, knowledge of infrastructure requirements for specialized environments such as law enforcement facilities, detention centers, and hospitals.
- Comprehensive telecommunications knowledge encompassing CCTV, security systems, data systems, and structured cabling.
- Current industry experience with the ability to evaluate technical challenges and implement new technology solutions.
