Office of the District Attorney is recruiting for
District Attorney Investigators and Senior Investigators who perform skilled criminal investigations, investigate violations of the law, gather and preserve evidence, and arrest offenders. In addition, investigators plan and conduct investigations to support prosecution of a wide variety of criminal and civil cases, including complex fraud and alleged corruption of governmental agencies.
The District Attorney Investigator is the trainee level in the series; incumbents work under immediate supervision while receiving training and acquiring the knowledge and skills required for promotion to the District Attorney Senior Investigato r level. Incumbents in the class of District Attorney Investigator are eligible for promotion to District Attorney Senior Investigator upon meeting the minimum requirements and receiving a satisfactory work progress report. Employees must qualify for promotion within 12 months or will be terminated

Salary displayed is the beginning step for a DA Investigator with an Intermediate P.O.S.T and the ending salary is the top step for a Sr. DA Investigator with an Advanced P.O.S.T. See below for details. Salary Information Investigators are placed on a salary range based on P.O.S.T. certification per the Safety MOU. (Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Realignment Sales Tax Collections performance)
District Attorney Investigator $110,032.00-$140,816.00 annually with Intermediate P.O.S.T.
$114,940.80-$147,118.40 annually with Advanced P.O.S.T.
District Attorney Senior Investigator $121,409.60-$155,438.40 annually with Intermediate P.O.S.T.
$126,838.40-$162,364.80 annually with Advanced P.O.S.T.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background: A background investigation will be conducted, including a fingerprint check and drug screening; applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Candidates must pass safety medical exam, psychological testing and a polygraph test. Candidates must meet and pass a minimum vision (both eyes) and hearing (both ears) test.
Peace Officer Status: Incumbents are full-time peace officers as defined in California Penal Code 830.1. As such, employees are required to be able to perform the same duties as a uniformed or plain clothes peace officer. These duties may include running, jumping, crawling, climbing, hand-to-hand combat, and other physical activities typically required of peace officers.
Physical Agility: Must pass a physical agility test as part of the background.
Assignment: Incumbents must be willing to work in any office across the County and may be assigned to various investigative areas. Investigative areas include but not limited to: major crime task forces, gang suppression units, trial preparation, child abduction, and various types of fraud including consumer, real estate, insurance fraud, elder abuse, public integrity crimes, environmental crimes, human trafficking and cold case murders.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position.
Mandated Course: Within one (1) year of the date of hire incumbents are required to successfully complete a 40-hour California P.O.S.T. mandated course on investigation and trial preparation (at department expense) or may be terminated.
Reassignment: Incumbents are subject to reassignments to meet the department's diverse investigative needs.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsP.O.S.T. CERTIFICATE: Both positions require an active CA Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate or higher.
Copies of the highest level POST certificate must be submitted with your application. EXPERIENCE : Candidates must meet one of the experience options listed below in addition to the required certificate:
District Attorney Investigator :
Five years of experience as a California Peace Officer (PC830.1 or PC830.2).
District Attorney Senior Investigator :Option A: Five years of experience as a California Peace Officer (PC 830.1 or 830.2), which includes one year of experience as a California District Attorney Investigator.
Option B: Five year s of experience as a California Peace Officer (PC 830.1 or 830.2), which includes two years of criminal investigative experience (with a job title as detective, investigator, inspector), in a public governmental law enforcement agency AND which includes the performance of field investigations as the primary responsibility.

Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will be knowledgeable on the principles and techniques of crime investigation, criminal law, including the rules of evidence, arrest, search and seizure, preparing search warrants, and the techniques of interviewing and interrogating witnesses and suspects. In addition, ideal candidates will have the ability to gather, preserve, analyze, and report evidence, communicate effectively in oral and written form, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the public and other law enforcement personnel.
