The Position

Contra Costa County Office of the Auditor-Controller is actively seeking to fill one vacant Division Manager position. Auditor-Controller Division Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operations of a multi-function division. The primary responsibility of Division Managers is to provide policy direction on fiscal, accounting, auditing, and financial record-keeping issues to staff and other County departments.

The Office of the Auditor-Controller’s primary mission is to ensure the fiscal integrity of the County’s financial records and to provide service, assistance and information to the Public, Board of Supervisors, County Administrator’s Office, County Departments and Employees, Special Districts, and some regional non-county agencies. Minimum Qualifications

License: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the applicant process.

Education: Possession of a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or a closely related field. Course work must have included at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting or possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certification.

Experience: Five (5) years of full-time professional accounting/auditing experience, which must have included one (1) year of experience performing in a full supervisory capacity to accounting/auditing staff.

Substitution: Two (2) years of full-time experience providing lead direction to staff in an accounting/auditing division may be substituted for the one (1) year of full-time supervisory experience. Lead direction must have been performed while employed in a class comparable to Accountant-Auditor III or Accountant III in Contra Costa County.

Selection Process

Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.Online Oral Interview: Candidates that clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualification will be invited to participate in an online oral interview. This interview will be conducted virtually. The interview is designed to measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Auditor-Controller classification. Candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies assessed, as well as an overall passing score of 70% of higher. These may include, but are not limited to: Professional and Technical Expertise; Analyzing and Interpreting Data; Attention to Detail; Displaying Ownership and Accountability; Professional Integrity and Ethics; Professional Impact; Coaching and Developing Others; Project Management; and Oral Communication. (Weighted 100%)
The interview is tentatively scheduled to take place in the first week of December 2025.

The interview will be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to participate in the interview, as well as computer or mobile device with a camera.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
