The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) is seeking a Deputy Director of Operations & Maintenance (Domestic, Electrical & Electronics), who will play a pivotal leadership role within the Coachella Valley Water District, overseeing multiple divisions that ensure the reliable delivery of high-quality water and the efficient operation of essential infrastructure. Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, this executive position leads, plans, organizes, and directs the activities of key operational branches, including domestic maintenance and construction, domestic water production and metering systems, electrical, electronics and instrumentation, pump maintenance, and asset management.

The Deputy Director provides strategic direction and management oversight to ensure all functions align with CVWD’s mission, values, and Strategic Plan. This position is responsible for setting short- and long-term goals, managing large-scale projects and budgets, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and industry standards. The role also involves developing and mentoring a high-performing team of senior managers, technical professionals, and support staff who are dedicated to operational excellence and superior customer service.

As part of the District’s executive leadership team, the Deputy Director serves as a trusted advisor to the Assistant General Manager, collaborates closely with other departments, and represents the District in meetings with the Board of Directors, partner agencies, and industry organizations. The position plays a key role in shaping operational policies, assessing community and system needs, implementing innovative solutions, and advancing CVWD’s long-standing commitment to reliability, sustainability, and public service.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to: Receives supervisory and policy direction from the Assistant General Manager.
Supervises the following positions: Exercises direct supervision over senior management, professional, technical, and administrative staff through subordinate levels of department management.

DEFINITION

Under direction of the Assistant General Manager, the Deputy Director leads, plans, organizes, integrates, directs, manages, and evaluates the activities of Operations and Maintenance branches encompassing multiple divisions, including domestic maintenance, domestic construction, domestic production, domestic metering systems, electronics, including instrumentation and controls, electrical, pump maintenance, asset management. Directs and manages the development of short and long-term goals and objectives consistent with the Strategic Plan and ensures their effective execution; ensures all assigned operations and functions serve the needs of the District, while complying with applicable laws and regulations. Participates in Board of Directors and related meetings; and performs related duties as assigned.
