The Position

OPEN EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Job Description: Under general direction of the Director of Public Works, this position provides management oversight and is responsible for the overall operation and performance of one or more divisions within the Public Works Department including, Integrated Waste, Maintenance Services, Fleet Services, Facilities Management, Administration, Engineering, and Transit Services. This current vacancy is to oversee the Fleet and Facility Divisions of Public Works.

Cyber Security

Actively participate in maintaining a secure computing environment by adhering to and implementing City cybersecurity policies, procedures, and best practices. This includes understanding common cyber threats such as phishing and malware, and promptly reporting suspicious activities.

Minimum Requirements

Education/License:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Project/Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field. A Master’s Degree in a related field is highly desirable.

Registration as a Civil Engineer with the California State Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Geologists, and Geophysicists is highly desirable.

Experience:

Six years of recent, progressively responsible public works experience, including at least four (4) years in a management capacity within Fleet Services and or Facilities Management or a closely related field.

Transportation:

Valid Class C California driver's license.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting.

Work is primarily performed Monday to Friday during regular office hours.

Weekend or holiday work may be required.

Emergency response may be required.

Selection Process

EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: Submitted Application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.
Candidates must pass each exam component with a minimum score of 70.00% in order to be placed on the eligible list.

ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight of 100%) To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and personal fitness for the position.

TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Any evaluation will be based on the candidate's education and experience as related to the position. Any examination will be to evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills for the position. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and/or weights. Should this be necessary, the candidates will be notified of the specific examination components and weights prior to the administration of any examination. The selected candidate will be subjected to a background check including Livescan fingerprinting.
