Assistant Superintendent to join its
Recreation & Wellness-GOLF Team.
The potential candidate will play a role in the following duties:
- Direct and assist managing all aspects of Driving Range maintenance at Memorial Park Golf Course, ensuring that the Driving Range is maintained to PGA Tour standards, following modern agronomical practices.
- Manages staff and/or field maintenance.
- Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the Driving Range.
- Works with contractors and represents the Driving Range in the absence of the golf course superintendent.
- Assists in preparing and monitoring maintenance and staff schedules, including Customer Service Guidelines.
- Ensure proper maintenance of specialized course equipment, irrigation system, and course amenities.
- Assist in planning, scheduling and overseeing course repair, construction, and special projects.
- Assist the Senior Superintendent with budget preparation and initiate/monitor purchases for course equipment and supplies.
- Assist with training and evaluating the performance of personnel.
- Work with contractors and department managers on joint projects and conflict resolutions.
- Investigate and resolve complaints; evaluate efficiency and productivity of operations and services.
- Develop plans to resolve problems and manage the completion of projects.
- Represent departments at meetings, external organizations and agencies.
- Perform additional assignments as required.
- This position is designated among essential personnel under the City of Houston Emergency Management policy.
WORKING CONDITIONS There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires an Associate's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Recreation or a closely related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of progressively responsible professional and/or skilled experience closely related to the activities of the section are required, including one of the years in a supervisory experience.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants with a Valid driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2) are highly preferred.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
