Drainage Operations and Maintenance II

Purpose:

This position performs highly skilled construction and maintenance work in one or more specialized programs, incorporating standard construction and maintenance techniques to produce a finished product to required standards.

Physical Requirements:

Continuous outdoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing; exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, inclement weather, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards; and occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying/lifting up to ninety (90) pounds and indoor activity.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this position is to maintain and aid the flow of about a mile of creek channels in Waller Creek which consists of limiting vegetation, removal of creek debris, and trash clean-up to prevent flooding.

This position is part of a team that conducts constant maintenance of two side inlets: one on 4th Street and the other on 8th Street. This position will work with the team to trap trash, aid in the clean up of some parts of Shoal Creek, to keep the channels clean, flowing and free of debris. In addition, they will be responsible for assisting at the Waller Creek Tunnel to conduct debris management, particularly due to heavy rain. Responsibilities include collaboration with others and use of physical labor to haul debris, with or without the use carts, and use of a forklift to move debris-filled carts to trash compactors.

The person in this position must contribute to their team and demonstrate an outstanding work ethic, a high regard for safety, ability to problem-solve, and excellent customer service.

SALARY RANGE:

Min: $23.76 - Mid: $27.32

PHYSICAL WORK LOCATION:

2001 E. 5th Street, 78702

DAYS AND HOURS:

40 hours per week - Monday - Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

May require working outside of normal business hours as dictated by business needs. In addition, work schedule may change to a rotating shift during weather events. Must be agreeable to accepting on-call assignments which might result in a call-back to work.

ESSENTIAL STATUS:
This position has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated extraordinary situation or emergency condition, essential employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees, as well as ensure the continuity of essential operations. Essential Employees may be called back in during such events, required to modify their schedule, assigned to a city-designated work site, or retained on-site to assist with operations and recovery.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT:
This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Must maintain a good driving record. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
