Description
The Job San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is recruiting for
Sheriff's Infrastructure and Operations Manager* who acts as a hands-on management leader who is responsible for teams involved in managing the network operations, enterprise server platforms and systems, cloud services, multiple data centers, as well as providing advanced project management and budget planning experience. The role assumes leadership for strategic IT planning, managing and directing network and systems architecture, and developing related strategies. This position oversees the Sheriff’s IT professional staff, providing guidance in performance management and driving continuous service improvement.
Incumbents are subject matter experts in:
- Managing core infrastructure, directing network operations teams, core server administration oversight, and storage services, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and stability for all enterprise platforms.
- Disaster Recovery (DR), overseeing the design, implementation, and testing of disaster recovery and business continuity plans department wide.
- Developing technical roadmap and standards, driving the technical IT initiatives related to infrastructure modernization, cloud migration, and virtualization, ensuring all solutions adhere to established security and industry best practices.
- Data lifecycle and governance, managing enterprise storage frameworks and practices requirements for data retention, security, high availability, and data lifecycle management.
- Risk mitigation and compliance, working with peers on efforts to drive cost savings, ensure business continuity, and mitigate risk related to infrastructure, network security standards, and department needs.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship, managing and mentoring network engineers, server administrators, storage architects, and other infrastructure specialists and IT professionals.

Summary of Benefits Summary of MBO Benefits Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Availability: Incumbents may be required to work overtime, irregular hours (including evenings and weekends) and perform recurring on-call or standby duties as necessary.
Environment : The incumbent will be required to perform site visits to Sheriff's stations and facilities, as needed, including County detention facilities.

Minimum Requirements Qualifying candidates must meet the requirements in ALL of the following categories: EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENT: Four (4) years of full-time equivalent experience conducting infrastructure and network operations support which includes any of the following: technology-based feasibility studies, implementing network security controls, and/or managing large IT related projects.
Experience MUST BE in a large scale, multi-location, complex environment involving the architecting and supporting solutions for at least 4 of the following technologies:
- Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Database Platforms (Microsoft SQL, Azure SQL, Fabric, etc.)
- Microsoft Cloud Computing Services (AD, O365, etc.)
- Storage SAN/NAS platforms (Hitachi/HP/Dell)
- Virtualization Platforms (VMWare, Hyper-V, docker, etc.)
- Operatizing Systems (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.)
- Infrastructure Hardware (Cisco, Dell, Aruba, etc.)
SUPERVISORY/LEADERSHIP
REQUIREMENT: Must possess three (3) years of full-time equivalent project leadership experience leading network and infrastructure operations. This experience must include leading large-scale projects in network architecture and providing direction to various IT staff.
EDUCATION
REQUIREMENT: Sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units of completed college coursework in business/public administration, information management, computer science, or closely related field.
A list of coursework or copies of transcripts must be submitted with the application, unless applicant possesses a Bachelor's degree in a qualifying area. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
Additional qualifying experience may substitute for up to 30 semester (45 quarter) units of education on the basis of one (1) year of qualifying experience for 30 semester (45 quarter) units of education.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Building customer relations and championing customer service.
- Supporting business applications and data systems.
- Leading and managing work for Business Solutions Development staff.
- Providing oversight to various complex projects and project timelines.
- Developing and monitoring project budgets.
- Participating in Strategic Planning and Process Improvement initiatives for the division.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department's ideal Infrastructure and Operations candidate will also possess excellent leadership, organizational, customer relations, and communication skills. Along with extensive experience and background in network and systems administration, data storage and recovery management, cloud administration, and project management experience.
