The City of Milpitas seeks an energetic, creative, and motivated Recreation Services Supervisor to oversee successful operations, programs, and services at the Milpitas Senior Center . The Recreation Supervisor will be responsible for managing several staff and will assist with critical functions of the Recreation & Community Services Department , including Senior Programs, Adult Programs, Social Services, Community Gardens and special project implementation. The successful candidate will be community minded, a strong leader, a critical thinker, and promote and encourage innovative programming and services.

Under direction of the Recreation and Community Services Director, the Recreation Services Supervisor develops strategic goals and plans, creates budgets, hires and supervises full-time and part-time staff; and monitors and prepares reports to council on assigned programs. The Recreation Services Supervisor ensures safe work practices; handles escalated customer concerns; actively participates in department and Citywide events and initiatives; serves as staff liaison for assigned Commissions and Committees; represents the Department with other agencies and community groups; and performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Recreation Services Supervisor is the supervisory level class, responsible for oversight of facilities and multiple program areas and full-time staff coordinating those areas. This classification is distinguished from the next lower-level classification of Program Coordinator in that it is responsible for more complex programming, long-range planning and integration of assigned program areas within the larger Departmental strategic plan. It is distinguished from the next higher classification, Recreation and Community Services Director, which exercises direct supervision over supervisor staff; is responsible for Department budget and integration within the larger City-wide strategic plan; coordinating efforts with other agencies and departments; and serving on the City’s Executive Leadership Team.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Only the candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process. Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews.
