Job Summary/Objective:

The Utility Assistant Registrar performs flexible, hands-on technical election support work for the Registrar and the Department of Voter Registration and Elections in accordance with federal and state election laws, including Title 24.2 of the Code of Virginia, and guidance issued by the Virginia Department of Elections.

This position is designed to function as a department-wide utility role, providing operational assistance across voter registration, Early Voting, Election Day preparation, election equipment readiness, training support, and records management. Duties are assigned at the discretion of the Registrar based on operational needs and election cycle demands.

Work is performed under supervision with latitude for independent judgment in execution. The role is non-supervisory and does not exercise independent statutory authority.

Salary Range:

The hiring range for this position is $25.73 - $28.43 per hour (approx. $53,512 - $59,144 per year). Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position. Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.
