Description
Overview The Senior Construction Inspector plays a critical role in overseeing and ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of public infrastructure and capital improvement projects. This position is responsible for performing advanced-level inspection work on various construction projects and ensuring adherence to approved plans, specifications, codes, and regulatory standards.
Working under the general direction of the Construction Management Division, the Senior Construction Inspector serves as a key liaison between contractors, engineers, and city staff. The role requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve field issues efficiently while maintaining project timelines and budgets.
Responsibilities - Conduct on-site inspections of construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, city standards, and safety regulations
- Review construction plans, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and completeness
- Document daily construction activities, including progress, materials used, and any deviations or issues encountered
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to address field changes and resolve construction-related problems
- Monitor and verify quantities for payment and assist in preparing pay estimates.
- Ensure proper testing and quality control procedures are followed.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior inspectors as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Seven (7) years of experience in Municipal Infrastructure Construction or other related fields
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
