The ideal candidate will be reliable, motivated to serve their community, and capable of working independently. This position performs a variety of hands-on maintenance, cleaning, and repair tasks to keep City facilities, parks, and public spaces clean, and well-maintained.

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefitted position, with total hours limited to fewer than 1,000 per fiscal year. Hours may vary from week to week; however, this position requires weekend availability . Scheduled hours on weekends are generally 5:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. but may change based on departmental needs.

THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT:

The Tustin Public Works Department is responsible for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of all public infrastructure and public right-of-way. THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education, experience, and training that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is required for entry into the classification. A typical combination includes:

Education and/or Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; and six (6) months of experience in general maintenance work.

Special Requirements:

Possession of a Class C California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Satisfactory results from a background investigation, physical examination and administrative screening. May be required to work varying shifts outside of regular business hours (e.g., early morning, evenings, holidays, and weekends) and may be called to respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to grasp, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The position primarily works in field settings. The employee must have the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. The position requires the ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort involving stooping, crouching, climbing, kneeling, working in confined spaces, and lifting, carrying, or pushing equipment, tools, supplies and other materials typically weighing up to 60 pounds. The employee may be exposed to strong odors, smoke, strong and/or toxic chemicals, and loud noise in the performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Employees do not receive health, retirement, or any other benefits unless otherwise required by law .

DEFERRED COMPENSATION
In lieu of Social Security, e mployees are required to contribute 5.5% of salary on a pre-tax basis every pay period to an OBRA 457 deferred compensation plan. The City contributes an additional 2%, for a total combined contribution of 7.5%.
