BTU-Electric Meter Technician (Apprentice)
Description
Job Summary While enrolled in the Electric Meter Technician Apprenticeship Program for Bryan Texas Utilities ( BTU ), this position works with high and low-voltage equipment involved in electric kilowatt-hour metering and performs meter testing and maintenance. Essential Job Functions
Tests all types of electric meters.
Troubleshoots metering problems.
Installs special metering applications.
Learns and displays a working knowledge of work rules and safety practices.
Responds with sound judgment to unusual and hazardous circumstances.
Maintains responsibility for verifying the condition of all vehicles, equipment and tools provided for use in the performance of work.
Represents BTU in a manner conducive to good public relations.
Assists with recordkeeping and maintains a log of work assigned/performed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a High School Diploma/ GED .
Work experience in construction, maintenance or repair of electrical/electronic equipment, or other labor/skilled trades experience is preferred.
Must be able to progress successfully through a four-year apprentice training program. Depending on experience/training, applicants may come in at a higher level within the apprentice program.
After successful completion of the apprentice program, the Apprentice Electric Meter Technician shall be advanced to the position of to a journeyman level Electric Meter Technician.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Requires a Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
