The Public Works Department is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Position Duties

The total salary range(s) for these classifications are:

Construction Inspector I: $78,514.80 - $95,659.20

Construction Inspector II: $ 88,866.96 - $108,217.20

Associate Construction Inspector $100,332.96 - $121,954.56

This range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill one full-time vacancy in the Engineering Services Division.

The Associate Construction Inspectors assigned to the Construction Management Services-Utility (CMS-Fee) Section is responsible for technical inspection services to ensure compliance with City and State Standards and Specifications. The CMS-Fee Section supports the work being performed by utility companies to construct public infrastructure that will be operated and maintained by the City including storm and sanitary facilities, streets, curb/gutter/sidewalk, street lights, traffic signals, etc.. Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Construction Inspector I:Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate).

Construction Inspector II:Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND two (2) years of construction trades or construction inspection experience.

Associate Construction Inspector:Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND four (4) years of construction trades or construction inspection experience, including two (2) years in any combination of the following: construction or infrastructure inspection, drafting or reviewing plans and specifications, materials sampling and testing, traffic engineering, or surveying.

Acceptable Substitutions:

Completion of an associate degree in engineering technology, construction management or closely related field from an accredited junior college or two (2) years of college coursework in engineering technology or related subject's courses may be substituted for two (2) years of the construction trades or construction inspection experience.

Form 700 requirement

This position requires a disclosure of outside investments, real property interest, income, and business positions. You must complete and file an “Assuming Office Form 700” with the City Clerk’s Office within the first 30 days of employment with the office.

Physical Requirements: Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 40 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment.
