Wastewater Operations Intern
Description
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Performs routine observations and reports at the Des Moines Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
Typical employment duration is 6 consecutive months (May-October). 32 hours per week.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; or
Enrolled in an independent study program including Des Moines Public Schools Options Academy, DMACC Youth Consortium, Iowa Workforce Development or a comparable program or a post-secondary environmental science related program.
Basic math skills.
Preferred experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Required Special Qualifications
Possession of a valid Iowa driver's license.
Must be at least 18 years old.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Performs operational rounds under general supervision.
Collects and analyzes process samples.
Assists in industrial wastewater sampling.
Assists with FOG inspections and sampling.
Cleans and maintains operational equipment.
General facility grounds maintenance.
Assists with preventative maintenance program.
Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
