TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under immediate supervision of the Conservation Education Manager, this intern position will provide hands-on experience in aquatic education, assist with creation, organization, and accessibility of resources and materials, and data entry. Job shadow of TPWD Division staff and TPWD site visits, as desired.

NOTE: As students, paid work experience reflected on your application may be limited. NOTE: Willingness for overnight travel 1-2 times during internship (expenses reimbursed).

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience:

None required.

Licensure:

Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in science, education, or related field with 90 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Experience (volunteer or paid work) working with youth or coordinating group activities;

Interest in teaching K-12 education, environmental education, environmental sciences, or water resources.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of office practices or administrative procedures.

Knowledge of aquatic habitats and water conservation.

Knowledge of teaching methods and practices used with children and adults.

Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Adobe products.

Skill in managing several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to collect, compile, and analyze data.

Ability to work outdoors in summer.

Ability to interpret and apply agency policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

Required to work overtime as necessary.

Required to work 20 hours per week, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

May required to travel 5% of the time with possible overnight stays.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 40 lbs.

Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
