GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Ecosystem Resources Program Interns will assist coastal ecologists responsible for managing habitat restoration projects, mapping habitats (oyster reef, seagrass, and salt marsh), responding to fish and wildlife kills, and engaging in state and federal environmental review processes. Duties include assisting with field work (both land and boat-based) such as acoustic sonar surveys, ground truthing map products, and project site visits; planning habitat conservation and restoration projects; assisting with literature reviews to provide supporting documentation for environmental review guidance documents; entering, handling, and summarizing data including the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); maintenance of field and lab equipment; and participation in outreach and natural resource related meetings. Perform additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. Normal work hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some work in the evenings or weekends with 40-hour weeks.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education :

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience :

None required.

Licensure :

Must possess a valid state driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

Required to work overtime as necessary.

Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

May be required to travel 25% of the time with possible overnight stays.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Required to perform work with proper safety precautions and equipment in enclosed spaces, heights, noise, dust and fumes.

Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
