GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Curatorial Intern will assist Curatorial Services in ongoing work in interpretive collections including cataloging, photographing, researching, and inventorying artifacts at the Austin Curatorial Facility.

Under the direction of the State Parks Curator, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in museums and cultural resources. Duties may include: (1) inventorying or cataloging interpretive collections, including data management; (2) conducting historical research; (3) assisting with moving, organization, and preservation of collections. Intern will assist in ongoing work in interpretive collections including cataloging, photographing, researching, and inventorying interpretive objects. Intern will receive on-the-job training in collection management and object handling and will learn to utilize database software, camera, and scanner. Intern will gain knowledge in program operations, program administration, and Texas Parks and Wildlife philosophy concerning historical, natural, and cultural resources. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience :

None required.

Licensure :

Must possess a valid state driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of Texas State Parks.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers or leaders while work on projects or assignments.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

Required to work overtime as necessary.

Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as necessary.

May required to travel 5% of the time with possible overnight stays.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.

Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
