GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Fisheries Management internship positions will, under the direction of the Ecosystem Leader, perform routine fish and wildlife conservation work including assisting in the collection, recording, and editing of fishery-dependent and fishery-independent data in the Corpus Christi Bay ecosystem and nearshore Gulf of America. Operates equipment safely under the supervision of trained staff. Maintains gear, equipment, and facility. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.
Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.
Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.
Experience :
None required.
Licensure :
Must possess a valid state driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Currently in pursuit of a degree relevant to the position; examples are majors in Marine Biology/Marine Science, Fisheries Biology, Biology, Wildlife and Fisheries Science, Oceanography, Environmental Science, and Natural Resource Management.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.
Required to work overtime as necessary.
Required to work 40 hours per week, with occasional hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and occasional work on weekends.
May required to travel 5% of the time with possible overnight stays.
Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
