GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

This position will assist the State Parks Accessibility Specialist in the Day to day operations and special projects.

Under the direction of the State Parks Accessibility Specialist, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in Accessibility. Duties may include: Accessibility, Inspections, developing alternative accessible programs, researching adaptive equipment for use in state parks, and assisting the State Parks Accessibility Specialist with day to day operations. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

Assisting with day-to-day operations of the Facility Management program.

Conducting safety inspections and facilities inspections under the ADA.

Creating ADA and accessibility training materials for the field.

Reviews and updates ADA Assessments for each site.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience :

None required.

Licensure :

Must possess a valid state driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of Texas State Parks.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers or leaders while work on projects or assignments.

Skill in managing several projects simultaneously.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Internship duration and work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern.

Required to work overtime as necessary.

Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as necessary.

May required to travel 25% of the time with possible overnight stays.

Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs.

Required to conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
