DescriptionThe Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one part-time temporary hourly-intermittent Student Intern, up to 40 hours per week for the summer, in the Planning & Pricing Department, Finance Division. Student Interns can expect to work in a variety of special projects during the term of his/her internship. The internship will focus on developing financial and programming skills while supporting the Pricing & Risk department and providing hands-on exposure to public power operations.
Examples of DutiesPotential projects during the internship include, but are not limited to:
- Researching and analyzing regulatory pricing proposals.
- Working with data and financial reports to create concise written summaries.
- Assist with the review and evaluation of public electric rates, including basic comparisons and bill impacts.
- Learn about wholesale power and natural gas markets and help staff track prices, trends, and market activity
- Support the team in tracking basic energy risk concepts, such as market exposure, price changes, and common financial metrics.
- Help collect, clean, and organize retail electric data for analysis and reporting.
- Assist with simple financial and revenue analyses related to energy supply and customer usage.
- Assist with the review and evaluation of public electric rates, including basic comparisons and bill impacts.
- Support special projects across energy supply, finance, pricing, and risk management, as needed.
- Help prepare summaries, charts, and basic reports for internal use.
In addition, the intern may work on various projects within the area of financial planning and analysis.
Typical QualificationsTypical qualifications may include:- Enrolled in a four-year college or university. Preference will be given to upper class applicants or recent college graduates planning to attend graduate school.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Experience: Basic working knowledge of R, Python, SAS, or other programming languages is preferred.
