The PositionThe City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of
Youth Service Corps Intern to establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months, but may be extended.
The Youth Service Corps Intern Program emphasizes three areas of service: food insecurity, climate change, and public service. It combines responsibilities, learning opportunities, and the chance to interact meaningfully with your community.

*The job classification being used is General Service Worker . Youth Service Corps Intern is a working title to reflect the current, specific need. Work PerformedWe are looking for up to twenty-five (25) interns to join a 9-month cohort group. You will work 19 hours per week in a department at the City of Riverside, take a monthly training course, and meet monthly with a job coach. Under direct supervision, the Youth Service Corps Intern performs and provides a variety of unskilled and limited skilled general tasks for various departments.
QualificationsTo qualify for the Youth Service Corps program, you must be between the ages of 16 and 30 years old and meet two or more of these criteria:
- Have not participated in an AmeriCorps program
- May have difficulty finding employment
- Are low income
- Are unemployed and/or out of school
- Are/were justice involved
- Are in/or transitioning from foster care, and/or
- Are engaged with the mental health or substance abuse system.
While we encourage all interested candidates to apply, the Youth Service Corps requires that 75% of all hires through the program meet two (2) or more of the eligibility requirements listed above. Candidates who do not meet all eligibility requirements are still welcome to apply, but their application may not be available for grant funding.

Temporary Variable & Full-TimeEmployees hired in a temporary position working "variable" part-time hours (less than 30 hrs/week) may be eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan offered by the City upon meeting full-time eligibility at the end of their measurement period (12 months). Employees hired in a temporary full-time (more than 30 hrs/week) position will be eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan offered by the City upon hire.
All temporary employees are automatically enrolled in a mandatory Deferred Compensation plan in lieu of Social Security. Temporary employees are also eligible for paid sick leave as outlined in the Fringe Benefits and Salary Plan, Section 7. Employees may be eligible for CalPERS membership upon hire if they are already a CalPERS member, Tier designation is based on membership date. If no prior CalPERS membership exists, employees must meet CalPERS eligibility requirements before being brought into CalPERS membership.
