Overview
Under professional supervision, the Librarian provides reference and readers advisory services to individuals of various ages and backgrounds in person, on the telephone, via email and virtually. They will instruct and assists the public in use of the on-line catalog, electronic reference sources and internet. The Librarian is responsible for adding current and accurate content for the Library's YouTube channel and program and events brochure. They will develop and deliver presentations and workshops on library resources, research techniques and digital literacy skills.
Responsibilities
• Provide reference and reader's advisory services to the public
• Work with patrons in person, over the telephone, virtually and via email; assist patrons with library catalog, computer and internet use
• Explains and performs intra and interlibrary loan procedures, document delivery, resource sharing, reserves and other retrieval options
• Selects, organizes, and interprets information from an extensive variety of materials, including technical, literary, and documentary statistical sources
• Assists at the circulation desk, as needed, checking material in and out, operates cash register when collecting fees and fines
• Ability to understand and explain library policies, procedures and operations, and to resolve patron issues/ conflicts, when acting as Librarian in charge
• Ability to interpret and clarify patron questions, applying model reference behaviors and techniques
• Provide problem solving and administrative guidance to ensure effective and efficient operations when acting as Librarian in charge
• Capable of using Integrated Library System, currently Koha, to access library catalog, check material in and out and running inventory reports
• Knowledgeable of print and online resources
• Oversees content on library website, with focus on reference and community resources
• Maintains authoritative and current reference resources on library website, and ensures content displayed is error free
• Partners with staff to create promotional material, flyers and quarterly programing brochure
• Oversees and assists with production of programs for library's YouTube channel
• Ability to with a variety of social media and digital formats along with devices used by patrons, such as iPads, tablets, eReaders, chromebooks and smart phones
• Ability to work with MAC editing software such as Final Cut Pro
• Manages all aspects of collection development for reference collection
• Understands and adheres to library collection development policies
• Evaluates and develops collection according to community needs assessment
• Prepares subject bibliographies and reading guides
• Defines criteria and establishes procedures to evaluate library materials for retention, replacement, duplication, or de-selection
• Conducts and analysis inventories of reference collection
• Identifies items in the need of repair and evaluates the cost effectiveness of repair, replacement and/ or withdrawal
• Performs original cataloging as needed
• Performs RFID tagging as necessary
• Selects appropriate subject headings and call numbers for accurate identification and placement within the collection
• Familiar with authoritative selection tools
• Aware of societal trends and influences related to subject areas as well as publishing and format trends
• Experienced working with a wide variety of professional reference, research, and reader's advisory tools, publications and resources
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications • Graduate Degree (MLIS, MLS, or MSIS) from an American Library Association accredited school with a focus on Reference services
• Minimum of (1) one year of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
