About the Opportunity

Definition Under direction, to supervise and perform a wide range of responsible and complex technical duties; provides technical support for network systems and business applications; instructs/directs others and troubleshoots and resolves complex system/application related support requests requiring advanced knowledge of systems; is assigned sensitive, highly specialized, larger and most difficult or complex problems and systems; performs a variety of technical support duties pertaining to computer systems and related equipment and serves as a second or third level responder for computer, network and hardware/software issues; analyzes existing processes and provides recommendations regarding technology solutions; trains IT technical and/or specialist staff, as well as users, in personal computer hardware/software; deploys hardware and software upgrades, patches, security and backup/recovery processes; installs, configures and administers a variety of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and internal applications; and performs other related duties as assigned.. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the advanced journey level classification in the Technology Specialist series. Positions in this classification perform technical assignments of significant complexity and serve as technical experts within their area of assignment. This class is distinguished from the classification of Technology Specialist II in that incumbents in the Technology Specialist III classification performs the most complex technical work, and provide lead direction to assigned Technology Specialist, technical, or clerical staff and/or serve as technical experts within their area of assignment. This class is distinguished from the Software Administrator, Software Engineer and Infrastructure Engineer series’ in that the latter describe positions with professional/analytical responsibilities where the primary duties include the evaluation of current systems, the design of technical solutions to meet the identified business or system needs, resolve application problems or improve efficiency and effectiveness; network/telecommunication systems analysis, design and administration; system analysis, administration and design; and/or database analysis, administration and design. In contrast, the Technology Specialist III classification describes positions with responsibility for providing a broad range of routine and complex technical duties and may assist professional staff.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a resourceful and detail-oriented IT professional with expertise in Windows environments. They should have a strong experience in end-user support, hardware and peripheral troubleshooting and application management. Proficiency in networking fundamentals, IT security and Microsoft 365 applications is essential, along with a team-oriented attitude, attention to detail and commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Technical Services bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.

Individuals who are in a full-time classified position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months for a total of eighteen months. The probationary period does not apply to unclassified positions.

Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
