A CLERK TYPIST I-III (NON-CAREER) IN THE GOVERNMENT RELATIONS DIVISION

(This is an at-will position)

Hourly Wage: $19.026-30.179

The Team...

The Harbor Department is seeking to fill a Clerk Typist II (Non-Career) positioninthe Government Relations Division. The Government Relations Division provides strategic government relations outreach on behalf of the Port of Long Beach to elected officials, legislative staff, agency leaders and appointed officials at the local, state, and federal levels. In addition, the Government Relations Division provides legislative analysis and advocacy services for the Port in an effort to promote the Port's initiatives and programs, as well as advocate for funding needs.

This is an unclassified (Non-Civil Service) position. Non-career positions typically average 20 hours per week, up to 29 hours a week , for a total of 1600 hours in a year for a maximum of two (2) years . Flexibility is offered within typical business hours. The assignment may end at any time, but under no circumstances will it extend beyond two years.

SPECIAL NOTE This is an unclassified, "at-will" position. The appointed candidate will serve at the discretion of the Port of Long Beach and can be terminated at any time. In such an event, the candidate has no right to any appeal or grievance procedure under any rule or regulation of the City of Long Beach.

The non-career position typically works 20 hours per week, and cannot exceed an average of 29 hours per week throughout the year, up to a total of 1600 hours in a year for a maximum of two years. Flexibility is offered within typical business hours. The assignment may end at any time, but under no circumstances will it extend beyond two years.

Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12-month period, and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, Non-Career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.
