The City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation is recruiting seasonal staff to work with our 2026 Camp Fort Worth and Mobile Recreation summer day camp programs. We are looking for enthusiastic Camp Leaders who enjoy working with youth, encouraging them to engage with their peers, grow and develop, try something new and have fun in the process! Camp Fort Worth and Mobile Recreation are summer camp programs located in 21 community centers and 4 schools throughout the City of Fort Worth.
- Attendance and participation at pre-season orientation is required. Orientation will be held June 1 st - June 5 th.
- The 2026 Camp Fort Worth summer program operates from June 8 th - July 31 st. Camp hours are 7:30a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- The Mobile Recreation summer camp operates from June 8 th - July 24 th . Camp hours are 9:00a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- The position allows a maximum of 30 hours worked per week (this is a seasonal position and is not eligible for benefits)
- The Literacy Program is built on 45 minutes of reading/literacy instruction daily, focusing on the 6 best practices of reading instruction: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and oral language development
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- Six months teaching experience in a specialty area (reading instruction, early learning, or elementary education)
- Valid Texas Driver's License
The Literacy Support Specialist job responsibilities include: - Supervise children during a variety of summer camp activities including recreational, cultural, and educational programs; indoor and outdoor events; aquatic activities; arts & crafts, and sports.
- Assist in developing weekly lesson plans that integrate subjects such as science, math, reading, recreational games, arts & crafts, and college and career readiness activities
- Assist in teaching different subjects using visual aids and hands-on activities
- Ensure disciplinary procedures are followed, safety standards are upheld, and all department and facility policies are enforced
- Adhere to assigned work schedules as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations
