The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Public Works & Utilities Assistant Director, assigned to Utilities. This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits, serving at the pleasure of the Public Works & Utilities Director and the City Manager. This is an on-site position working Monday through Friday.

Who we are
The Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is one of only five America Public Works Association (APWA) Accredited Agencies and one of only eight Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Certified Acceptance Agencies in the State of Arizona. Chandler Public Works & Utilities manages the City’s Capital Improvement Programs and is responsible for the maintenance and operations of the City’s streets, water and wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater collection, water distribution, and reclaimed systems, as well as water resources and solid waste services.

Who we are looking for
Our Public Works & Utilities Assistant Director will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. The Public Works & Utilities Assistant Director will assist the Public Works & Utilities Director in leading a team of dedicated professionals that provide the community with Capital Projects, Streets, Traffic, Water, Wastewater, Reclaimed, Solid Waste, and Recycling. The selected individual will serve alongside the Public Works & Utilities Director, overseeing the various internal service divisions of the Public Works & Utilities Department, as well as the Solid Waste Division. These include Utility Engineering, Administration, Water Quality, and Meter Services. Work involves supervising, managing, and leading activities and operations, including overseeing fiscal, budgetary, and personnel functions, as well as goal setting and policy-making alongside the Public Works & Utilities Director.

Minimum qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration, or a related field; and
• Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; and
• 10 years’ experience in civil engineering, capital projects, and public works operations, including 4+ years supervisory experience; and
• Registered as a Professional Engineer by the State of Arizona with a proficiency in civil engineering; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications
• Master’s degree in engineering, public health, public administration or a related field;
• Certification with ADEQ in Water and/or Wastewater

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, a driving record check, and reference checks as a condition of employment.
