Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Failure to submit the Application or Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

DESCRIPTION

THE AGENCY

Alameda County General Services Agency (GSA) delivers a host of logistical support services to County agencies and partners from maintenance of facilities and County fleet to energy and environmental management services, capital project management, procurement services, and clean commute and recycling programs. The GSA Community strives not only to provide these services but to also facilitate collaborative and innovative approaches in its efforts. THE POSITION

This series specification describes two gardener classes which, under close supervision at the lower level and under general supervision at the higher level, plant, transplant, and propagate trees, shrubs and flowers; keep an assigned grounds area including hardscape adjacent to County buildings, clean and attractive; and do related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER I :

Experience :

The successful completion of the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in the class of Gardener I in the Alameda County classified service.

OR II :

Experience :

The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in skilled gardening work.

Substitution :

Successful completion of a two (2) year course in gardening at an accredited trade school may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

AND

Possession and maintenance of a valid Qualified Applicator Certificate, with a Landscape Maintenance (B) or Maintenance Gardener (Q) endorsement issued by the State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation by date of the Civil Service exam and maintain said certificate throughout employment.

A ND

License :

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Physical Characteristics :

May require heavy lifting and the ability to stoop, crouch, climb ladders, and work outside in all weather conditions.

Special Requirements :

Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

A review of applicants' applications and supplemental questionnaire responses to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate’s final examination score. The oral examination may contain situational exercises.
Candidates must attain a qualifying rating of each portion of this examination.
