Description
Overview
The Park Technician I position is to maintain and mow the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of ways, and beaches. The principal function of the position is to operate various types of machinery and tools to include trucks, utility carts, trailers, tractors, zero turn mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, brooms, shovels, picks, lopping shears, backpack blowers, backpack sprayers, pole saws, rakes, and trash grabbers to achieve park maintenance standards.
Responsibilities
• Collect litter, large debris, animal carcasses, and tree limbs from parkland, facilities, right of ways, and beaches
• Sanitize restrooms and restock toilet paper, soap, and hand towels
• Troubleshoot any clogged toilets, urinals, drains, leaking water lines in/or around restroom facilities
• Report any standing water or foul odors around septic tank systems
• Operate a zero-turn riding mower, standup mower, push mower, and tractors in different terrains and slopes
• L oad and unload mowers, and/or other equipment onto and off trailers
• Operate gas/electric equipment to weed eat, edge around sidewalks, fences, trees, shrubs, poles, signs, guardrails, inlets, meter boxes, and alleys
• B low grass clippings and other miscellaneous debris off sidewalks, street curbs, parking lots and/or playgrounds
• T rim trees, shrubs and/or grind tree stumps
• E xcavate earth using auger, and/or skid steer
• O perate a work truck and trailer, abide by City and Department rules and regulations on operating City equipment
• H ook up and detach a trailer by themselves and make sure the brake lights are operating properly
• D rive work truck with trailer forward and reverse, negotiate turns in a safe manner without damaging trailer and/or tow hitch, drive passenger vehicles, utility vehicles and maintenance equipment safely
• Install new or transplant plant life such as trees, shrubs, and/or flowers
• Complete application and distribution of compost and mulch by hand, hand tools or powered equipment
• Set up and take down portable tents, chairs, tables, podiums, banners/signage, trash barrels, scaffolding, gym mats, lifeguard stands
• Remove graffiti using chemicals or pressure washer, apply paint to walls, ceilings, poles, playgrounds, meter boxes, accessories, and/or any other assigned locations using a roller/paint brush
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full Time - Rotating and non-rotating work schedules are available; days and times will vary
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications• High School Diploma/GED
• No prior experience is required
Licenses and CertificationsRequired • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
