Description
Job SummaryThe City of Greenville is looking for a Recreation Assistant for the South Greenville Recreation Center. Under general supervision, this position will assist the Recreation Supervisor in planning, organizing, and conducting various center programs and activities, provide customer service at the front desk of South Greenville Recreation Center and perform related work as required.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Examples of Duties•Assists in the overall planning, organizing, and conducting of various recreation activities including youth programs, teen programs, after-school programs, summer camp, special events, and outreach initiatives;
•Assists with supervision of volunteers;
•Provides customer service at the front desk of South Greenville Recreation Center;
•Answers telephone, provides public with needed information, and takes registration and reservations for activities, programs and rentals;
•Assists with training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating part-time staff and volunteers;
•Initiates and organizes new activities as needed;
•Assists in requisitioning and inventorying of supplies and materials and other equipment needed for the center;
•Assists in preparation of publicity materials and in publicizing events;
•Prepares center utilization reports;
•Opens and closes South Greenville Recreation Center as needed;
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, or closely related field is preferred; and
- One year of recreation or related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: - principles, practices, and techniques of recreation administration;
- customer service techniques;
- policies and regulations affecting the operation of an athletic center;
- first aid, CPR, and AED techniques
Skill in: - using athletic tools and equipment;
- using office equipment, including computers and related software.
Ability to: - assist in planning, organizing, and supervising various center activities;
- assist in creating league game schedules and tournament brackets;
- assist in the training, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff and other seasonal employees for programs;
- provide quality customer service;
- communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- follow oral and written instructions;
- operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages;
- meet the mental and physical demands of the position;
- work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public;
- work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Special Requirements- Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record;
- Must possess (or obtain within 90 days of hire) and maintain valid Red Cross First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications;
- Requires working a varied schedule to include nights and weekends.
