THE POSITION

Under the direction of a Stores Administrator, the Senior Storekeeper for the Logistics Division of the Department of Utilities is responsible for supporting the department’s operations and maintenance teams by purchasing, warehousing and distributing parts and equipment needed to maintain and repair the City’s vast water, wastewater and drainage systems. Tasks include but are not limited to, oversight of a specific warehouse location’s ordering, receiving, maintenance, and issuance of a diverse inventory of materials, supplies, tools, and parts. They will also be supervising storekeepers, leading cycle counts and year-end inventory counts, using various software for workflows and recordkeeping, and assisting with other program areas as requested.
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent customer service skills, be open to learning, and have the ability to manage priorities in a continuously evolving work environment. They will be experienced in warehouse management, inventory control, supervising staff, and proficient with general software, preferably Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with work order management or inventory software is preferred but not required. An understanding of the procure to pay lifecycle for goods and services including solicitations, purchase orders, invoicing, and other procurement functions is desired but not required.

Under general direction, the Senior Storekeeper provides supervision of stores personnel and participates in the operation of city warehouses and storerooms. Responsibilities include interpreting and executing policy and enforcing adherence to established procedures related to storekeeping activities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Senior Storekeeper is a supervisory class in the Storekeeping series. Incumbents work with, direct, assign and supervise subordinate employees receiving, storing, delivering, maintaining, and issuing materials, supplies, tools, parts and other items.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Direction is provided by a Stores Administrator or a higher-level administrative or division manager. This is a working supervisor position which provides direct and functional supervision to the lower level personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Experience:

Four years of experience in the requisitioning, receipt, storage and issuance of materials, supplies, and equipment, of which one year must have been as a lead worker or supervisor . Public sector experience is highly desirable.

AND

Education:

A high school diploma or its equivalent. Thirty (30) semester (or equivalent quarter) units with major course work in business administration, public administration, accounting or a closely related field is highly desirable.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to attain a state issued Forklift Certification by the end of probationary period. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Driver License:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Physical Requirements:

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.

The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list. Candidate’s eligibility expires one year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Senior Storekeeper examination.

4. Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail)- All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. 5. Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass Live Scan/fingerprinting. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
